As part 3 of our International Women’s Day series, we meet Kate Goddard, Sales Development Team Manager. Kate has worked in Sales since she was 17, mainly within male dominated industries such as logistics and pharmaceuticals, so working within a large male workforce has become a bit of the norm. Kate has had much success working within these industries, launching successful sales teams. In this interview, Kate gives us an insight into her longevity, her vast experiences and what inspires her.
Tell us a bit about yourself…
I’m Kate, Wife to Sam, and Mum to Ben 34, Samantha 30 and Mini Panther Baloo. I’ve worked in Sales since I was 17. Various industries, predominantly Media/Advertising, Pharmaceuticals & Logistics with shorter stints in Travel and Cosmetic Surgery.
What’s it been like working at Aurora so far?
Fascinating! I had no idea there was such a big demand for Print. I learn something new every single day both from prospective customers and colleagues and I love that.
Launching a new team has not been without challenges, but I have felt fully supported by the team around me. There is a great sense of camaraderie and teamwork throughout the business.
How does it feel to work in a male dominated industry?
I’m very comfortable working in a male dominated environment.
I was a real tom boy in my youth, became a military wife and found both Pharmaceuticals and Logistics to be male dominated industries – so I guess it’s the “norm” for me to be a minority!
I’ve pimped up the office by adding quotes in pastel frames, a few pot plants, and room diffusers as they were lacking when I arrived!
What advice would you give to women wanting to enter a position like yours?
Advice from me… Be yourself. Trust your instinct and capability. Always ask the question.
Advice from my Grandma worth passing on … Always keep your head, heels, and standards high!
What is your proudest achievement whilst working at Aurora?
Launching a brand-new team that generated 177 meetings for the sales team in the first 6 months. I’m delighted that new business deals are starting to land from meetings booked by my team.
Which women inspire you the most?
My late Mum. The strongest, driven and most influential individual I will ever meet.
The absolute matriarch of our family who dedicated her life to guiding, supporting & nurturing all those around her. An advocate for treating individuals as individuals.
How do you influence your colleagues around you and the wider business?
Show appreciation – Stay focused on what’s important – Actively listen to what people have to say.
What does this year’s International Women’s Day theme #EmbraceEquity mean to you?
I think the quote below quote sums it up… Women can explain most things with a shoe analogy!
